BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Evan Duff is the Provost and Sr. Vice President of Academic Affairs at North Carolina Wesleyan College. He has been working in higher education for the last 12 years; prior to that he worked in private industry for a global call center, as well as for a credit union. Evan obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in general administration and his Doctor of Education in organizational leadership. Prior to that he was the Dean of Extended Education at the University of Mount Olive. He has taught at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level and has experience working in the NC community college system.
Karyn Fowler is a Physician in St. Charles, MO. Karyn was a first-generation college student at the University of Illinois, where she also received her medical degree. Recently she completed the Executive and Continuing Professional Program for Physicians at Harvard University.
Kate Greenberg (Board Chief Administrative Officer) is a Development Officer at the Central Region of the World Wildlife Fund in Chicago, IL. Kate received her Bachelors of Arts in Journalism from the University of Missouri.
Heidi Huenemann (Board President) heads Business Finance Strategy & Operations at Red Hat Software in Raleigh, NC. She received her Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Missouri.
Debbie Hughes, it is fair to say, is familiar with the university experience. She was enrolled at three separate institutions of higher learning before finally earning her Bachelor's degree in History and German from Florida State University. She then began her journey to become a professor of history, first with a Masters Degree from Purdue University and then a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. After moving to North Carolina, Debbie decided to go back to school and earned a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Now she helps students navigate the academic experience as a learning consultant and assistant director of the Academic Resource Center at Duke University.
Marc Lerner is Associate Professor of History at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. His research and teaching focus on European history during the Enlightenment and Age of Revolutions. Originally from New York City, Marc attended the University of Chicago for his undergraduate studies and received his PhD from Columbia University.
Jennifer Poersch (Board Chief Financial Officer) is a Lobbyist and Partner at Hannegan Landau Poersch Rosenbaum Advocacy in Washington D.C. Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts from Baker University in Kansas and lives in Alexandria, VA.
Nina Rifkind is an attorney with a background in general litigation and non-profit formation and administration. Nina grew up in New York City, attended Yale University for her undergraduate degree, and went to New York University for her law degree. Nina currently lives in Oxford, Mississippi.
Fred Sandborn is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Fred was a first-generation college student, at Kansas Wesleyan University and received his Doctorate from Kansas State University.
David Singleton is the Transfer and Articulation Ombudsperson at Nevada System of Higher Education. Originally from New York City, Dave attended the University of Missouri where he studied Communications and received a Masters in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University. He lives in Las Vegas and has worked extensively in higher education as an academic advisor and success coach.
Paul Zimmerman is a Physician and Business Owner of Boone Podiatry in Boone, NC. In addition to receiving his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University in Miami, FL, he has a Masters of Health Administration from the Gillings School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill where he focused on health care organization, economics, and strategic marketing.
